  1. I realize that there are many dark secrets in a country founded on th premise of freedom, yet plagued with conspiracies and black ops. To keep a complicated country running, we must have secrets. Secrets can include in-appropriation of government funds, or assassinations of former presidents. The Iran Contra Scandal brought a person into the spotlight almost a decade before he became a household word, Osama Bin Laden, and as I watched Oliver North testify before congress, I thought "what a waste of taxpayer monies." In this case, we created a terrorist by funding him and encouraging his actions, as long as they were directed at our enemies.
There will always be secrets, some which help run the country and some which could ruin it. Wiki Leaks, in my opinion, should not simply release secrets because it can embarrass governments, but still should be responsible if information is released that could endanger innocent people. Their bottom-line motivation, in my opinion, is making money from selling stories. I feel accountability is important, for both Wiki Leaks and those they identified.

  2. Whether it's an organisation like Wiki leaks or a disgruntled employee a leak is a leak.
Wiki Leaks are getting there information somehow, maybe illegally.
Freedom of the press! Or imposing on someones privacy.
We all know governments and private organisations deliberately leak information or dis-information. But for employees to give out sensitive information whether it's for mis-guided moral reasons or for financial reward are wrong.
There is no doubt there is some truth in the wiki leaks but is it truth that should be in the public domain?
We can all make better decisions in hindsight. We all say things that we may wish we hadn't said.
As it said once in one of my favourite TV comedies "Coupling", "once you've said it, it's out there". People in power have to be so careful what they say or put to paper.
Do I agree with leaks? In general No.
Did you see the interview on ABC (I think) morning news with the Wiki leaks guy? Standing there in front of his snow covered English mansion. Does he think he is a truth evangelist. Had anyone heard of him before wiki leaks?
Freedom of the press. Not easy for me to answer. Some freedom, Yes. But innocent people do get hurt by some stories put out there. Government definitely should not be the controllers as it is in half the countries of the world.
How many politicians are in power because of the press they support?
I could drivel on about this for ages as new thoughts come to me. Time for my afternoon tea.
